There are four women’s ministries at Georges Creek: WMU, WOW, Heartstrings and “Sew Blessed.”
Women’s Missionary Union (WMU)
The WMU is a group women of various ages who gather together every second Tuesday of every month to hear how different missionaries continue to win victories through Jesus Christ. In our meetings, we discuss missionaries’ needs in their work fulfilling The Great Commission. At times, we have speakers who come to share with us their challenges; and at other times, we study and read of the missionaries’ work in the countries where they are serving Christ, and we always pray for them. Another way we remember our missionaries is by calling out their names and having special prayers for those who have birthdays on the days we meet. One of the goals of our WMU is to keep missions in the forefront of our congregation’s thoughts and work. At appropriate times during the year, we emphasize Lottie Moon Offering for international work, Annie Armstrong Offering for North America missions, and J.D.Chapman Offering for South Carolina missions work. Every month we support our community in some capacity; for example, we give needed food items to United Christian Ministries, school supplies for school-aged children, and Christmas gifts for the needy. Please come join us and get involved in God’s work as we share the love of Christ to our community, our state, our nation, and our world.
Women Of The Word (WOW)
The Women of the Word meet weekly on Wednesday evenings at 5:30. Our meetings are organized to discuss our current study lessons; to pray for our church, each other, and friends and family who need prayer; and to discuss our monthly projects. We ladies are committed to the following goals of WOW:
- Grow spiritually through Biblical studies
- Grow closer together as we fellowship in our studies
- Mentor the younger members of WOW
- Reach out to homebound and military church members through cards, phone calls, & visits
- Reach out to possible new members of the church and WOW
- Complete one community or church project per month
In seeking to grow more mature spiritually, we ladies read and discuss current works about discipleship and women’s biblical roles. Recent studies include Twelve Ordinary Men: How the Master Shaped His Disciples for Greatness, and What He Wants to Do with You by John MacArthur, The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer, and The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands by Lysa Terkeurst. Through prayer and discussion, we ladies of various ages share a warm and godly relationship with each other.
As Women of the Word, we seek to impact our church and our community through Christian love. Each week, we sign and mail cards to the homebound and the sick. We support our church and community through monthly projects such as collecting donations to MARYS House, a domestic violence shelter in our area; to United Christian Ministries; and to other local ministries who have needs. We also support Georges Creek Baptist Church’s Child Development Center in various ways: providing lunch to staff at various times of the year and providing Christmas supper for families of our children, and collecting needed supplies for the CDC. Another ongoing project is redecorating and reorganizing our church library to make it better fit the needs of our congregation.
Through prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and a daily walk with the Lord, we Women of the Word are passionate about growing spiritually into the women God desires us to be. We believe we are the hands, the feet, and the eyes of Christ here on earth; and we seek to share His love with everyone we meet. We welcome any woman of any age to come join us. We share a warm and godly relationship with each other, truly God’s gift as we seek to discover His marvelous plans for our lives.
Heartstrings Women’s Ministry
The purpose of the Heartstrings Women’s Ministry is to build up, encourage, and support women in their journey as Christians. Specific events and activities are planned once a quarter to deepen one’s Christian faith. Women are challenged to live lives totally committed to Christ. Through participation in Heartstrings, women mentor women, build friendships, and develop accountability. Opportunities to grow in faith include speakers, seminars, evangelism/prayer/ missions related activities, and music. All ages of women are invited to be a part, including teen girls.
Sew Blessed Ministry
“Sew Blessed” is a group of ladies and girls who use their sewing skills to meet the needs of people in our surrounding community. Projects have included pillowcases for local homeless shelters; drawstring bags for Operation Christmas Child; burial garments as part of Bereavement Kits for parents of deceased preemies at St Francis, Greenville Memorial, and Easley Baptist; chemo port seatbelt covers and mastectomy cushions for cancer patients; and walker caddies and bibs for hospice as well as for local nursing facilities. Ladies who can sew and would like to participate should email Edith Page epage2722@bellsouth.net Suggestions for future projects are always prayerfully considered.
